About the role

Join FitMate as a health coach. Be your members’ day-to-day accountability partner for food and exercise, while AI handles meal logging, the analysis of the week ahead of your session, incoming messages, and everything else that’s been getting in your way.

The role is 100% remote. You can live anywhere, as long as you can work at least 10 hours a week in US-friendly time zones: our clients are primarily in the US.

You coach. We handle the rest.

Your job is the part only a human can do well: 1:1 sessions, between-session messages, behavior change and trust. AI handles meal logging, the weekly brief and drift detection, everything that’s been in your way.

  • Run weekly 1:1 sessions. Typically 15–20 minutes, alternating call sessions and sessions by text. The dashboard preps you ahead of each session in a few minutes: what changed, what’s working, what to address. So calls are efficient and go on coaching, not on recalling what happened in the week.
  • Proactive support and accountability between sessions. Short, frequent, high-impact messages. AI identifies which clients need a nudge to stay on track; you bring the human voice.
  • Drive behavior change. One or two small commitments per week. Track, celebrate, iterate. AI surfaces drift; you bring the fix.

Nutrition. A satiety-first approach: protein and fiber first, within a calorie range members can live with. It’s built on their real meal pattern: members send their meals and AI analyzes them, so you coach from what they actually eat.

Strength training. Members follow guided video sessions from a program designed by a certified personal trainer, with AI setting the progression. You keep them doing it and flag pain, injury or plateaus to the trainer; you don’t design or change the program.

Who we’re looking for

A credential on both sides, nutrition and exercise: ACE Health Coach on its own, or one nutrition credential plus one exercise credential.

  • Nutrition credential. Members get daily nutrition coaching, and many are on GLP-1 medication, where evidence-based guidance matters.
  • Exercise credential. You need to understand a trainer’s program well enough to tell when a member is struggling, at risk, or not progressing. You won’t write programs, only read them and spot problems.
  • Behavior-change skill. Adherence is the core of the job.

One credential: ACE Health Coach on its own. It is NCCA-accredited, and it covers nutrition, exercise and behavior change.

Or a pair: one nutrition credential plus one exercise credential. Accepted nutrition credentials:

  • Registered Dietitian (RD / RDN)
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in nutrition or dietetics
  • Precision Nutrition Level 1 or Level 2
  • NASM Certified Nutrition Coach (CNC)
  • CISSN (International Society of Sports Nutrition)
  • ACE Fitness Nutrition Specialist
  • ISSA Nutritionist
  • NCSF Sports Nutrition Specialist
  • AFPA Nutrition & Wellness Consultant

Accepted exercise credentials:

  • NCCA-accredited personal trainer certification: ACE, NASM, NSCA (CPT or CSCS), ACSM, NCSF or NFPT
  • ISSA Certified Personal Trainer, taken as the NCCA-accredited exam
  • CSEP-CPT or canfitpro (Canada), Level 3 PT on CIMSPA (UK), or Cert IV in Fitness on AUSactive (Australia), reviewed case by case
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in kinesiology or exercise science

NBHWC counts only together with a nutrition credential. We don’t accept IIN or holistic nutrition programs, generic health-coach certificates, or AFAA as a trainer credential. We’ll consider a credential that isn’t listed, provided you have training in both nutrition and exercise science: tick “Another nutrition or exercise credential” on the form and name it.

Beyond the certificates, we look for coaches who are genuinely enthusiastic, and who can work with many clients while making each one feel unique and showing you’re excited to work with them. That’s what keeps clients motivated, and what keeps them with us. You also need:

  • At least one year of direct 1:1 coaching, helping clients with weight loss.
  • Training in behavior change techniques as part of your certification, applied with your clients.
  • Strong written and spoken English.
  • At least 10 hours a week, in US-friendly time zones.
  • Comfort on video, and warmth on text.

Pay and your week

Up to $30 an hour, depending on experience, on a 1099 contract (W-2 is possible on a case-by-case basis). You’re paid pro rata for the time on your calls, plus a few minutes of prep for each call, plus your time messaging clients by text. If a client doesn’t show up, or cancels less than 24 hours before, you’re still paid for that call.

We book intro calls with clients at times that work for you, and we ask for at least 10 hours a week. After the intro call, you book recurring sessions with each client and set their goals together. Sessions alternate week by week between a 15–20 minute call and a session by text. AI does the session prep, which keeps calls short and focused, and it does the groundwork for messages between sessions: you open the dashboard, see who needs a reply, and respond. It doesn’t take long, because AI has already done most of the work.

Questions you might have

Do I need to find clients? No. FitMate brings clients to you. You focus on coaching.

Will I be expected to do meal plans or food logs? No. AI handles meal logging, macro tracking and the weekly brief. You spend your time on advice, behavior change and the relationship.

Do I need to write training programs? No. A certified personal trainer designs every program, and AI progresses it within the trainer’s rules. You keep members on it and flag pain, injury, failed sessions or plateaus to the trainer.

What’s the application process like? Apply here in about five minutes. We read every application against the credentials above. If yours is a match, we’ll email you a link to book a 15–20 minute call with the team. If the call goes well, you’ll receive a conditional offer, subject to checks and possibly a final conversation.

Where are clients based? Primarily in the US. We hire coaches who can work US-friendly time zones.
